There is a lack of integrity and accountability in politics today, from the highest Federal level to our own county government. We can change this in Shiawassee county simply by requiring all of the county’s business of the people to be recorded, word for word, and video recorded for live streaming on the internet and archived for subsequent review by the county’s employer, the taxpayers.. We need a change,, I want you to vote democratic in this election to help end this cycle of consolidation of power.. but don’t stop there. Hold our feet to the fire, stay involved, ask and demand answers to your concerns… Keep us honest. The system of government by the people, by it’s very definition, will not, cannot work, if the people are not involved, and informed and included. A couple of ideas for consideration. Recently, the city of San Francisco adopted a program to provide health care for all. Can Shiawassee County do this? Instead of health care benefits just for county employees, why not for all? I think the least we could do is offer a "buy in" for residents so we all could have access to a quality health care program. Second, why not a resolution or declaration to demand a living wage from those corporations who can most afford it? The richest corporations in the world, such as Walmart, have moved into our county, at the expense of the small business owner and the fabric of our local community, only to pay poverty wages to support their unprecedented profits. Is ten or twelve dollars an hour too much to ask for our citizens?
Yours Very Truly,
Jack Johnson |
